Q & A with Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist Ali Lomazzo

Blissful Events decided we wanted to feature a question and answer session with a local vendor once a month; to provide our Brides with a little more information and direction for your big day! This month we reached out to one of Rhode Island’s well known Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist Ali Lomazzo about Bridal hair and makeup, and here’s what she had to say;

1. What’s trending right now for hair and makeup 2015?

The effortless and “less is more” look is what I find most of my 2015 brides are asking for. They want to look like themselves with a clean glowing face and an updo that looks like it took little to no effort. I like to call this the “Boho chic” bride.

2. What is your favorite bridal hair and makeup combo for brides?

I would have to say my favorite combo for brides is glowing/dewy skin with a soft lip and a strong brow paired with a loose side swept up do. It always makes for gorgeous photos and I find that it is a timeless look.

3. If a Bride is tight on budget what do you suggest?

I suggest really figuring out what is most important to you on your special day. If you know that a photographer and a makeup artist are the most important things on your list, hire them first and then work down the list and prioritize your finances. But also, be realistic and remember that in most cases, you get what you pay for!

4. How far in advance should Brides be booking out?

Brides should be booking their hair and makeup artists 6 months to a year in advance. If you are getting married on a holiday weekend, then book your artist a year to a year and a half in advance. I know some brides get engaged and plan a wedding in a year, so if that’s the case, book your artist as soon as you have a date. Some people suggest 1-3 months in advance which is in no way good advice!

5. What is your makeup must have item right now?

I actually have a few must haves! “Smashbox” primer water is so necessary especially in the winter months. You spray it on your face before applying your foundation and it creates a hydrated canvas. I cannot live without the “Urban Decay” chill makeup setting spray! This is a spray that you use on your face after your makeup is done and I promise your makeup wont move all day. My last must have is a beauty blender. I use this to blend out concealer and sometimes to even put on foundation. I don’t know how I ever did an application without it!

6. Who is your #WCW, Ultimate celebrity crush in terms of hair and makeup style?

As of recent, Hayden Panettiere is my absolute favorite. Her makeup is always fresh and its all about her skin, which I love. Her hair is always so soft as well! She either wears it down with a nice wave or has a textured but loose updo.

Ali left us with a few tricks of the trade:

“Be sure to really take care of your skin and moisturize before putting any makeup on”.

“Anytime you are getting an updo, don’t wash your hair the day of the appointment. Clean hair doesn’t hold a style well”.
